1. Service and scope
These Terms of Use govern the echo. browser extension, its associated service and project website (collectively, the “Service”). The party operating the Service is referred to as the “Operator”.
The Service enables public comments, replies and reactions associated with passages on supported web pages, together with account-based private notes and social features. Compatibility with every website, or continued attachment of content to a passage that has changed, is not guaranteed.
Any public beta will be identified as such on the releases page. Data processing is described in the separate Privacy Policy; acceptance of these Terms does not constitute unrestricted consent to unrelated processing.
2. Eligibility and accounts
Public reading is available without an account where supported. Posting, private notes and social functions require an account, the applicable permissions and acceptance of the relevant terms version. Handle or email confirmation may be required for a particular action.
Account terms must be accepted together with a declaration that the user is at least 13 years old. Any higher age requirement or additional authorization imposed by applicable law must also be satisfied. That declaration does not constitute verified proof of age.
Account information must be used lawfully. Impersonation and unauthorized use of another person’s credentials are prohibited. Credentials and verification codes must be protected. Suspected unauthorized access should be reported to support@echoextension.online.
Local account recovery is subject to the verification procedures made available by the Service. Recovery of a Google or GitHub account is governed by that provider’s procedures. The Service does not provide a means of bypassing identity verification or resetting a third-party provider password.
3. Content visibility and private notes
Public comments, replies and reactions are associated with the author information displayed or supplied by the Service. They may be accessible through related profiles or shared-comment links. A hidden profile does not make all previously published content private.
Private note text is restricted to its owning account through the ordinary application endpoints. Private notes are not end-to-end encrypted. Availability or recovery of every stored note is not guaranteed. Administrative access, retention and deletion limits are described in the Privacy Policy.
Users should retain independent copies of information they need. Removal within the Service does not guarantee removal of screenshots or independent copies retained by others.
4. Content ownership and limited permission
Ownership of rights already held by a user is retained by that user. No ownership of original website text or third-party content is granted by these Terms.
By submitting content, the user grants the Operator a non-exclusive permission to process, store and reproduce that content to the extent necessary to operate the requested functions, display content designated for public posting, engage the providers required for those functions and review related reports or appeals. This permission does not authorize the sale of the user’s content, public disclosure of private notes or promotion in the user’s name. Retention following deletion is limited by the applicable deletion arrangements described in the Privacy Policy and requirements of applicable law.
The user must hold the rights or authorization required to submit the content and any associated excerpt. The fact that text is visible on a website does not establish an unlimited right to republish it. Applicable copyright rules and website terms remain relevant.
5. Acceptable use and community rules
The following uses of the Service are prohibited:
- Unlawful content, credible threats, incitement to harm, or the sexual exploitation of children.
- Harassment, hateful conduct, impersonation, or disclosure of another person’s private information without a lawful basis.
- Spam, scams, phishing, malware distribution or deliberately misleading harmful links.
- Infringement of intellectual property rights or unauthorized republication of protected works.
- Attacks on the Service, unauthorized access, or attempts to circumvent authentication, rate limits or other safeguards.
- Use of alternate accounts or social tools to evade moderation or continue unwanted harassment.
Discussions should remain relevant to the passage. Spoiler controls should be used where appropriate. Reports must not be knowingly false or malicious. These rules do not represent that every violation is detected automatically or reviewed before publication.
6. Following, blocking and muting
Follow, block and mute relationships may be managed through the available controls. Following may notify the followed account. Blocking or muting does not itself issue a direct notification, although its effects may be apparent.
These tools affect visibility and supported interactions according to context. They do not guarantee complete concealment of an account, prevent access to public content through other means or remove access required by authorized moderation tools.
7. Moderation and account measures
Content may be removed or its visibility changed; a profile may be reset; or an account may be restricted or banned where a rule violation or a need to protect the Service is identified. Relevant circumstances may include the reason, severity, context and repetition of the conduct. Urgent protective action may be taken. A fixed sequence of warnings is not guaranteed.
A restriction limits specified public actions, such as posting or reacting, and may be temporary or indefinite. Other functions, including private notes and supported account requests, may remain available according to the account state. A ban prevents authenticated sessions from functioning; access to an in-account tool must therefore not be assumed for a banned account.
Moderation tools record reasons, timestamps and audit information. The decision information made available through the Service may differ from internal review notes or reporter information. Ordinary moderation authority does not provide access to private note text through the moderation interface.
8. Appeals
An eligible comment-removal or account-restriction decision may be appealed through the available account tool. The default appeal period is 30 days, subject to the applicable period and eligibility information shown by the Service. An author’s own deletion is not treated as an appealable moderation removal.
If sign-in is unavailable, the account is banned, or no appropriate tool is available, the decision may be raised with support@echoextension.online. The handle and an explanation of the decision should be provided. Appropriate ownership verification may be required; passwords and verification codes must not be submitted in correspondence.
No particular review outcome, restoration or response time is guaranteed. Content that has been irreversibly cleared from a relevant record may not be restorable. Appeal arrangements do not limit rights provided by applicable law.
9. Discontinuing use, export and deletion
Use may be discontinued and the extension may be disabled or uninstalled. Uninstallation does not automatically delete a server-side account.
Supported export and account-deletion tools are subject to identity verification and the account state. Their scope and the effect of deletion are set out in the Privacy Policy. Local account deletion is not represented as erasure of every related record held by all providers, and does not delete the user’s Google or GitHub account.
10. Availability and limitations
The Service may contain errors or experience interruptions. Passage identification may be affected by changes to the original page. Certain functions depend on hosting, authentication or email providers. Continuous availability, universal site compatibility and recovery of every lost item are not guaranteed.
User content expresses the views of its author. Publication through the Service does not establish endorsement by the Operator or by the owner or author of the original website.
Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.
11. Releases and installation
The official releases page will identify approved public versions, their publication dates, release notes, available packages and beta status.
Installation is subject to the technical requirements and policies of the relevant browser, operating system and device administrator.
12. Changes and contact
These Terms may be updated to reflect changes to the Service or applicable requirements. The revised date will be displayed on this page. Material changes will be communicated, and renewed acceptance will be requested, where required by applicable law.
Any mandatory rights, remedies and jurisdictional protections under applicable law remain unaffected.
Questions regarding the Service or these Terms may be submitted to support@echoextension.online.
The Service is operated by Alhassan Mohamed Sayed, an individual based in Egypt.
